What Is Gundam Card Game's Newtype Challenge?
Newtype Challenge is Gundam Card Game's recurring competitive store series. Here is how the Missions work, how to register, and what Mission 4 is giving away.

Newtype Challenge is Gundam Card Game's recurring competitive store tournament series. It is a step up from a casual locals afternoon, so you'll probably encounter a more competitive field, but it's still one of the most accessible ways to get serious games in, meet nearby players, and win promos without travelling to a Regional.
The events run several times a year in numbered Missions rather than on one single date. Their length can change by region: Mission 3 ran from May 1 to June 30 in the United States, while Mission 4 runs from August 1 to August 30. The Asia-English version of Mission 4 runs longer, from August 8 to October 7, so always check the event page and your local listing rather than assuming every territory shares the same schedule.
What to expect
Newtype Challenge events take place at participating stores. Bandai recommends Swiss rounds or a tournament bracket, but the store decides the final format, number of rounds, entry fee, and player cap. The latter is an important detail to keep an eye on, because the spots can fill up fast.
How to sign up
Registration is handled through the BANDAI TCG+ app. But in our experience, we’ve seen several stores that also require direct registration through them.
To register through Bandai TCG+, you need to download the app, set the game title to “GUNDAM CARD GAME,” and find the Newtype Challenge event. If the event is capped, I’d recommend joining the waiting list.
Applications generally open two weeks before the Mission begins, so it’s worth registering as soon as you see an event you can attend.
Prizing
Each Mission has its own promo lineup. For the current Mission 4, every participant receives a copy of GD04-117 Graceful Demeanor at the end of the event.

The winner receives stamped GD04-066 Unicorn Gundam (Awakened), while top finishers receive GD04-117 Graceful Demeanor, with the number of copies based on attendance. For example, in an event with up to 32 players, only the top 4 will get one. The promos rotate between Missions, which gives the series a nice reason to keep participating.
A useful look at the local meta
Newtype Challenge is also one of the better snapshots of what people are actually bringing to stores. During Mission 3, the Japanese Gundam Card Game account shared regular deck-usage graphics from the events. In the June 22-28 report, Blue/Purple made up 26.1% of the field, followed by Red/White at 19.6%.
We track those reports and their week-to-week changes in our Gundam Card Game meta section. It is a useful starting point when deciding whether to bring the deck you know best or tune for the field you expect.
Newtype Challenge isn't a World Championship event, but it doesn't have to be one. It is a recurring local competitive space with real promos, real deck data, and enough competition to make winning feel good.
