Card Spotlight: Mew ex from the Upcoming 30th Anniversary Set
Mew ex from 30th Celebration brings back the classic Mew toolbox feel, copying attacks from the Bench with Memory Helix.

One of the first cards from Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration that caught our eye, and everybody else’s, is Mew ex. Honestly, it is hard not to think of past Mew cards when looking at it. We like Mew as a Pokémon, but we also like what its cards have done across different formats. This one is not that different.

Its Ability, Memory Helix, lets Mew ex use the attacks of any of your Benched Pokémon, as long as it has the right Energy attached. That kind of effect has always been worth paying attention to. Mew ex from 151 had a similar “copy” feel with Genome Hacking, while Mew VMAX spent a long time defining formats by turning other Pokémon’s attacks into its own game plan.
This Mew ex is not automatically the next Mew VMAX, and it probably should not be judged by that kind of impossible standard. Mew VMAX was something else. Still, the card clearly has potential. Being able to turn your Bench into a toolbox gives deck builders a lot to work with, especially if the format has strong single- or two-Energy attacks worth copying.
The attack is useful too. Teleportation Burst only does 30 damage, but switching Mew with one of your Benched Pokémon gives it some built-in movement. Not that it really needs it, since it already has free retreat, but it is good to have. That matters on a Pokémon with a copying Ability, since positioning will probably be a big part of making the card work.
It is too early to know where Mew ex lands, but this definitely feels like a card that will see play.
The set releases worldwide on September 16, 2026.
