Card Spotlight: Benn Beckman From the Upcoming OP-16
Benn Beckman gives Red-Haired Pirates a powerful new way to cheat Shanks into play, opening the door for explosive late-game turns.

OP-16, THE TIME OF BATTLE, releases on June 12, 2026, and is already giving Red-Haired Pirates players something exciting to look at. Benn Beckman might be one of the most interesting reveals so far.
Benn Beckman is a 5-cost, 6000-power red Character with Counter +1000 and Blocker. On play, if your Leader has the Red-Haired Pirates type and you have 10 DON!! cards on your field, you may rest 1 DON!! to play up to 1 Shanks from your hand.
That effect is the big selling point. For only 6 DON!! total, Benn Beckman lets you develop a 6000-power Blocker while also dropping a Shanks directly from hand. In a deck that already wants to reach the late game and finish with huge threats, this gives Red-Haired Pirates a very strong tempo swing.
The card also opens up several combo lines with the different Shanks cards already available in the format. OP06 Shanks, OP09 Shanks, ST23 Shanks, and the promotional Shanks all become much more interesting when they can be paired with Benn Beckman on the same turn.
What makes the card even better is that it does not just add pressure. Benn Beckman also leaves behind a Blocker, which gives the deck some protection after committing to a big play. That balance between offense and defense is exactly what Red-Haired Pirates decks want in the late game.
